MMS (Mobile Mapping System) devices, referred to generally Videocar, are the most advanced tool for land surveys; they can contain a single integrated photogrammetric high-resolution cameras, laser scanners, cameras, geo-radar (GPR), DGPS, internal systems, Odometers, etc., that allow recording of geo-referenced photos of all earth elements in the trajectory of movement of the vehicle and under the floor (using GPR). The images received via MMS, constitute historical documentation on the status of sites labeled with specific dates, thanks to the geo-referenced parameters with which they are equipped. Moreover, the collected images and data constitute a kind of archive from which it is possible to enjoy, even at different times and subsequently localized and qualitative metrics for different classes territorial elements that are specific.
Using the MMS equipment quickly as possible, complete and accurate to locate as metric, and the informative point of view, everything is part of a cross section of the road and all items used gauge (bands dividing strips, sidewalks , banquets, leading bands, etc..) MMS allows examining the state of the road surface, cracks, ruts, grooves, etc.., for quantification and planning activities scheduled maintenance and recovery. The results contribute to the preparation of appropriate technology projects that involve optimal allocation of materials to extend the life of the road.
The use of geo-radar (GPR), integrated with the MMS equipment, allows the detection of the interruption solenoid (EM) in the ground, due to isolated objects or layers which have different dielectric characteristics of the surrounding environment. These breaks can be caused by lithological changes, vibrations in the water content, voids in the soil, such as tombs, tunnels, cracks or presence of underground pipelines.
